Thagaran has a BSc. Computer Engineering from the Wentworth Institute of Technology (USA), an associate degree in Electronic Engineering. He has recently completed the International Executive Development Program (IEDP) with Bankseta and Gibs and NYU Stern in New York. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors of Southern Africa.

He is currently at Mercantile Bank as the CIO in a full service banking environment with a fully functional core banking system. Key challenges have been the stabilization of the workforce and introduction of cost saving initiatives and fit for purpose innovation and operationalizing the Acquiring technologies. Introduction of digital channels is near completion.

Prior to that he was Chief Information Officer and Enterprise Architect for the LAND BANK, where he is drove the business transformation and change in operating model as part of the massive turn around of that Bank to profitability, including a SAP Banking implementation for Loans in 9 months

Prior to that he was the Group Chief Information Officer at Transnet Ltd, where he has led a number of major transformational change programmes in his responsibility for the entire Group’s ICT spanning across ports, rail, pipelines and associated logistics processes. Thagaran chaired the CIO Council of Transnet which directs and manages the Group’s massive ICT programme, as well as a founding board member of the CIO Council of South Africa.
